Ashleigh Smith

Miss Columbus 2007

Ashleigh Elizabeth Smith is the daughter of Edwin and Deborah Smith.  She is a senior at LaGrange High School.

She is a 4 year member of the Granger Marching and Concert Band where she has served as a trombonist and a drum major for the past 2 years. A 9 year member of the Young Singers of Lagrange Choir School, she has had the opportunity to travel and sing in Ireland, Washington D.C., Orlando, and New York.  She is an active member of her school and is an 8 year member of the LaGrange High School Black History Celebration Choir.  Ashleigh's passion is music and performing, having been singing since the age of two.  She is an avid fan of the jazz genre and some of her favorite entertainers include Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Ethel Waters.  Because of her love of music, she has chosen Music to My Ears: Preserving Music in Education, hoping to share all of the many benefits a musical background can have on a child both emotionally, physically, and educationally.  Ashleigh plans to attend a 4 year university and major and pursue a double major in vocal performance and music education.
