Carly Floyd

Miss Southern Rivers Outstanding Teen 2006

Carly is currently a senior at Vidalia High School where she is involved in many extra-curricular activities. Beginning in the fall, Carly will be enrolled in the Accel program in which she will be taking three college classes and receive dual credit for each. After graduating next spring, Carly plans to attend Georgia Southern University in order to receive a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in secondary education, and a minor in dance.

This past year as a junior, Carly was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team, the Beta Club, National Honors Society, Toombs-Montgomery Youth Leadership Class, and member/choreographer for the VHS Competition Show Choir. She received the Georgia National Merit Award from the University of Georgia, received an award for the highest average in her American Literature class, and was selected as member of the Honor Guard at the 2006 graduation ceremony.

Carly has been dancing with the South Central Dance Academy for 9 years and has traveled to numerous dance competitions all over the United States such as: Atlanta, GA; Orlando, FL; Winston-Salem, NC; and Las Vegas, Nevada. She will be traveling to Bristol, TN this July to compete in the Miss American Clogger Pageant. Carly was a member of the Vidalia Recreation Dept. Swim Team for 8 years and placed in the top 8 in the GRPA state swim meet every year. Now she no longer swims on the swim team, but stays in the water constantly as she teaches swimming lessons at the Meadows Wellness Center in Vidalia. The memories and experience gained from competitive swimming and 4 summers of teaching swimming lessons, serve as the foundation for Carly’s platform, Healthy Strokes: water safety and fitness. This platform focuses on the importance of the awareness and prevention of drowning as well as the health benefits associated with swimming. Carly is determined to spread the news that water can serve as a play ground, a place of therapy and healing, and a fitness gym for people of all ages.
She will be competing in the Miss America system for her 4th year and is thrilled to be returning to the state competition this summer. “I feel that pageants offer so much more than scholarship money,” Carly says, “they give young ladies the opportunity to learn helpful interview skills, gain poise and grace, and  make lots of new friends.”
